Calm after the storm
One of the features that has been on this blog is that of “Wordless Wednesday”, a day where a photo is shared. Now, as the name suggests, the photo is supposed to speak for itself, you know, “a photo is worth a thousand words” kind of thing.
BUT,
as many of you know, I have a hard time NOT putting words to my pictures - I have the ribbing comments to prove it
BUT, GUESS WHAT?! I found a fabulous blogger that links up photos on Wednesday AND encourages WORDS with the pictures! SCORE! She calls it Wordful Wednesday! SO AWESOME!
I have wanted to link up for a few weeks now, and I can finally do so with Angie over at Seven Clown Circus!
If you have never been over to Angie’s blog, go take a peek…she is fantastic!
So, this week I share with you winter. Yuk.
I thought it was over….in fact, Sunday morning I saw GRASS! Real green grass… the snow had melted enough to not only see the lawn…but also to see the patio bricks…and one sad sight indeed. After waiting two years-because we just could not make up our minds- we had the front landscaped. Nothing fancy, just something to give more curb appeal, rather than the ugly rock formation “garden” we had created. In any event, the one splurge we agreed on was a Japanese Maple. We made sure to ask if we should cover and protect it from its first winter and were assured “Yeah, it will be fine!”
Nope. Poor thing is channelling Charlie Brown’s Christmas Tree. Sadly, the snow has claimed all the delecate branches and they are scattered around the little trunk of the tree. I don’t think it has a chance…but we will see, once spring arrives. IF it arrives.
Sunday evening, Mother Nature decided to mess with us a little bit…well, a lot actually. She made the wind howl and pelted everything with 3 inches of ice. It was just a matter of time before the power went off and sure enough, by midnight we were without it. No school the next day and no power until noon, left a very cold and quiet morning, but made for some amazing photos!
Thanks for indulging my words to go with my post today!!
- Calm after the storm
How did you start your Week? Did you take your Monday with or without ice?

I'm Kelly and so glad you are here! I'm a mom and I blog, but there is so much more than meets the eye:I am a freelance writer, blogger and photographer, foodie through and through, coffee hound, wine enthusiast, retired speedskater turned marathon runner and social media maven.

You made winter/snow/ice actually look warm and inviting!
Beautiful shots!

Thanks! I made sure to stay nice and warm in the sun…and took these through the window!
That makes me shiver.
It was so cold!! Especially without power (aka: Heat!).
Boo to snow. Yeah to being able to join Angie and me for Wordful Wednesday! But, just so you know, we don’t mind one itty bit if you link up Wordless posts too!
Oooh! Even Wordless?? Yes!
Thanks!
Great shots! We had similar weather last Friday & Saturday in MI. We saw grass on Saturday and then 4 inches Saturday night. I’m over winter!
I am THRILLED that you decided to play along this week, and your post made my day. Your snow pictures are beautiful, but isn’t it like Spring almost?
I remember those LONG, LONG winters from when I lived in MA.
I am too! I’ve been trying…and it worked out this week! yay!
One would think that by mid-March the buds would be searching for warmth and sunshine…but no. Nothing! It has been a true winter here this year…I think spring will be here around June!
Thank God we missed that storm. Great Pictures. I am so ready for spring.
Oh and because I know you will appreciate it: Today a little boy tried to kick my Princess out of the locker room after practice because she was a girl. My spunky princess asserted all her 40lbs. of self and said “No I am a hockey player!”
Go Girl Power!!!
I know, right?! I am so ready too…so sick of snow…I’m ready for the colors of spring!
Go Girl Power!!!!
LOVE
that!
