Virtual Summer Dinner Party

There is nothing more fun than a progressive dinner to meet new friends and share some fantastic dishes! But what happens when your guests live in far off places rather than your own neighborhood? You have a virtual dinner party!!

Bloggers-we are a crafty bunch- and can figure out how to have fun no matter the distance…

So, I am teaming up with a couple bloggers that I know and a couple that I just “met” to welcome the middle of summer by sharing a few recipes and inviting you in on the fun! Grab a chair and join us! Let me introduce you to who is here at the table and what we have brought to enjoy:

  • Jessica T. is kick-starting the party with a Pre-Dinner Cocktail : Blood Orange Margarita
  • Kelly (that’s me!) will be serving an Appetizer : Pear, Pistachio & Gorgonzola Pita Wedges
  • Jessica F. has created a plate-full of deliciousness with an Entree : Branzino
  • Briana will wow us with a crazy good Dessert : White Chocolate and Fruit Parfaits
  • Rachel our very own Court of Masters, Certified Sommelier will be pairing the best wines for each course!

While Jessica is creating her fabulous cocktails, I’ll be making one of my favorite appetizers! I often forget to make these, but when I need something easy, delicious and different, I always remember to turn to this recipe.

Pear Pistachio & Gorgonzola Pita Wedges

1 small clove garlic, minced

2 Tbsp Olive oil

1 Bartlett pear, sliced thin (as thin as you can make it)

1 Tbsp Shelled pistachio nuts, chopped

1 Tbsp crumbled gorgonzola cheese

1 whole pita bread round

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Meanwhile, in ramekin or small bowl combine olive oil and minced garlic. Let stand 10 minutes to infuse. place pita round on ungreased cookie sheet. Brush top of pita with garlic oil (ok to keep little bits of garlic!) Top with sliced pears in fan (or tart) fashion. Add crumbled gorgonzola cheese. Top with chopped pistachio nuts. Bake in oven for 10 minutes or until cheese is just melted. Slice into wedges and serve. Recipe makes 1 pita. Adjust ingredients accordingly to make multiple pizzas.

Yes, this is a recipe I have shared before, but it is so good I just had to break it out again! I’ve never made this on the grill, but I bet it would taste great! What do you think?

I can’t wait to dig into the main dish and dessert and I know every glass of wine will be perfectly paired with each course!

Thanks to the awesome Briana of Newly Blissed for such a wonderful idea, being the hostess-with-the-mostest– and for inviting me to celebrate the middle of summer with old and new friends!!

Be sure to visit everyone’s blog to grab the recipes and wine list! If you have a great recipe to bring…share it with us!
